French Puncheur India Grangier signs for two years

WORDS: Luke Williams

Le Col - Wahoo is pleased to announce the signing of 22-year old French rider India Grangier from the start of the 2023 season. India joins the team from UCI Continental squad Stade Rochelais Charente-Maritime, where she began her cycling journey and has ridden for several seasons.

The Frenchwoman joins the team with the aim of improving her race craft and becoming a more well-rounded rider who can help the team in multiple scenarios. Having watched the team closely this season, India can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve seen the team be very offensive and having a big presence during races this season, this is something I found very attractive. I want to progress in this role [as a puncheur] and this is the team for me to do that”.

India says she wants to show herself in some of the biggest hilly races on the calendar such as La Flèche Wallone and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Having raced these two events once before, India has some good memories of the Ardennes Classics.

“It [LBL] was very hard as it was raining, and we were all very cold. The racing was hard and nervous, but it was also very beautiful as the roads were very diverse as they shifted from small and big [during the race]. For me Liège-Bastogne-Liège is iconic.”

General manager Tom Varney emphasised India’s potential.

“We are happy to add India to the team for the future. Over the past years, India has shown that she has potential to develop into a solid rider on various terrains. With our programme and guidance, we are excited to see her develop and discover what India can achieve.”

Alongside cycling, India is also studying for a master’s degree in finance and is about to embark on an internship in Luxembourg before getting stuck in with Le Col – Wahoo. She is also excited about the cycling opportunities she’ll have while there though, “The terrain is very hilly, which is what I like.”

Having spent plenty of time in the UCI peloton over recent years, India is ready to make the next step and will be a brilliant addition to the team for the upcoming season. We can’t wait to see what she can do.
